Customer Background
Travis Perkins is part of Travis Perkins plc and the UK’s largest supplier of building materials to the building and construction industry. With over 500 branches nationwide, they provide thousands of products and materials — from timber, kitchens, and plumbing to landscaping, painting, and tools — supporting trade professionals and self-builders to get the job done.
The Challenge
The Finance Modernisation Programme is a critical transformation for Travis Perkins, replacing a finance system first installed in 1986. The programme introduces Oracle Fusion Cloud to create a well-controlled framework, reduce operational risk, and enable future scalability across the group.
Key challenges included:
-
2,000 colleagues impacted, across a wide variety of roles — from branch colleagues and regional managers to finance teams and directors.
-
A geographically dispersed workforce across nearly 785 branches, from Northern Scotland to Cornwall.
-
The need to address not just IT system training, but also behaviours, culture, communication, leadership, and colleague confidence during the change journey.
Our Approach
As part of the change management programme, Fudge designed and delivered a tailored training solution built around role-based learning and sustainable adoption practices:
-
Training Needs Analysis aligned to four Oracle workstreams:
-
Procure to Pay (P2P): Order Management, Payables, Supplier Management
-
Order to Cash (O2C): Projects, Receivables
-
Plan to Stock (P2S): Product Management & Accounting
-
Record to Report (R2R): Financials, Projects, EPM, Cash Management
-
-
Blended Learning Approach
-
Professional Users: Instructor-led training (virtual & classroom)
-
Self-Service Users: Training videos and Quick Reference Guides
-
All Users: Supported by Oracle Guided Learning at the point of need
-
-
Support Networks
-
Train the Trainer programmes to empower internal delivery
-
Peer support networks across branches to ensure local guidance and ongoing confidence
-
The Results
The Finance Modernisation Programme was more than a system replacement — it became the launchpad for a new learning culture within Travis Perkins.
Key benefits delivered:
-
A workforce empowered with maintained, role-based learning materials accessible when and where needed.
-
A sustainable peer and trainer support network, reducing reliance on central teams.
-
Embedded Oracle Guided Learning, ensuring colleagues are supported not only at go-live but also through ongoing quarterly cloud updates.
-
A cultural shift towards continuous learning and adoption, enabling the organisation to scale confidently into the future.
“This programme wasn’t just about adopting Oracle; it was about building confidence, creating resilience, and ensuring no colleague was left behind in the change journey.” – Travis Perkins Change Lead
